Kipling had started writing the stories while living in the US, when he and his wife were expecting their first child. The book was an instant success, becoming popular with the young and the old alike. The Jungle Book has inspired numerous adaptations, the most well-known being the 1967 Disney movie and Jon Favreau’s recent hit.

About the Author

Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, India, on 30 December, 1865. The Jungle Book, Kipling’s best-known work, was first published in 1894, though its different stories had appeared in magazines earlier. In 1896, the Kipling and his wife moved to England and settled in Sussex. Six years later, in 1902, he published the well-loved Just So Stories. Kipling was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907. He died on 18 January, 1936.
